Active Trustees
The Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust is governed by six Trustees.
Hugh M. Durden, Chairman, service since 1/18/05
Mr. Durden was named Corporate Trustee in 1997 and was elected individual Trustee and Chairman of the Trust in 2005. As Corporate Trustee, Mr. Durden was a representative of Wachovia Bank and was elected to the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation in July 1997. Mr. Durden joined Wachovia Bank in 1972 after business school and remained there throughout his business career, serving in leadership positions in North Carolina and Georgia. He retired as President of Wachovia Corporate Services in 2001.
Winfred L. Thornton, Immediate Past Chairman, service since 12/4/67
Mr. Thornton was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust in 1967 and served as Chairman of the Trust from 1982 until 2005. He was also elected to the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation in 1967 and served as Vice-Chairman until January 2005. He began his career in railroading with the Southern Railway in 1950, moving to the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) in 1960 as Chief Operating Officer. He was subsequently elected Vice President, Director, President and Chairman of the railway, and then Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of FEC Industries in 1984. He retired from FEC Industries in 1997. Mr. Thornton was first affiliated with St. Joe Paper Company as a Director in 1968 and was named President in 1984 and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1991. He retired from the St. Joe Corporation in 1997 and served as a member of the St. Joe Board of Directors until 2004.
Herbert H. Peyton, Vice Chairman, service since 1/18/95
Mr. Peyton was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust and became a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation in January 1995. He lives in Jacksonville and is the founder of Gate Petroleum Company, which he began in 1960. The company owns Epping Forest, the Jacksonville home built by Mr. duPont in the 1920s. He currently serves as Gate's President and Chief Executive Officer.
John F. Porter III, service since 1/18/95
Mr. Porter was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust in 1995 and has also been a member of the Board of Directors of Nemours since that time. However, he has been affiliated with Nemours since 1970 when he became a member of the Board of Managers and later served as its Chairman. Mr. Porter served as chairman of the Board of Directors from January 2005 to February 2007. He lives in Wilmington and was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Delaware Trust Company until his retirement in 1997.
W. T. Thompson III, service since 1/18/95
Mr. Thompson was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust and became a member of The Nemours Foundation Board of Directors in January 1995. He served as chairman of the Board of Directors from May 2000 to January 2005. He lives in Richmond, Virginia where he serves as Vice President—Investments of A. G. Edward & Sons. He was a director of the St. Joe Paper Company from 1990-1995 and is the great-nephew of Jessie Ball duPont and Edward Ball.
John S. Lord, service 7/25/00
Mr. Lord was elected a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust in July 2000 and became a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation the same year. However, he has been affiliated with Nemours since 1998 when he became a member of the Board of Managers. Mr. Lord was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in February 2007. He lives in Winter Park, Florida and retired in 2000 from his position with Bank of America as the Orlando-area market President and Small Business/Premier Banking Executive for the State of Florida. He was first involved with the Trust and Nemours as a representative of the former Corporate Trustee, Nations Bank, and also as a member of the Board of Managers of Nemours.
Past Trustees
